This mountain trip is a shorter version of our original National Park Safari. It is ideal for those who don’t want to spend 6 hours outside and prefer a less tiring trip for less kilometers. The only difference between this trip and the normal one, is that we won’t drive to the area of Sami to visit the destroyed village and the cave. Ideal to get your mountain boost for the day!

Mountain Ainos is the highest mountain of Kefalonia and of all the Ionian Islands with 1628 meters of altitude.

It is also a National Park because of the unique forest of Kefalonian Black fir trees. It’s a place of high natural beauty. Birds of prey, wild flowers, wild horses, goats, sheep and the most amazing viewpoints are up there. Please note that during the very hot months of the summer not all of the wildlife can be seen.

We pick you up from your accommodation or set a meeting point to start our trip and cross the entire National Park. Soon we start to climb the mountain and as we go higher the vegetation changes and the views get better and better. The trip starts with the seek of the wild horses. These beautiful creatures are one of the highlights of our safari. We also visit the ruins of the old monastery of Zoodochos Pigi and we enter the small church built there, on a quiet and peaceful plateau. After stopping several times to admire the views and take photos and driving through the forest, we reach the highest point the road can get. We now are on the second highest peak of the mountain. The view is breathtaking and of high contrast. Imagine standing on a sub-alpine environment and looking straight down to the sub-tropical beaches and the warm waters of the Ionian Sea. This is where we can find a nice spot to have a break and enjoy the homemade sandwiches we made for you. A 20 minute hike to the top of the mountain or the nearby area is possible! Then we start our descend to drop you off to your accommodation or to the meeting point.
